Chair Announced
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul announced that its 11th Annual Giving Campaign will begin December 1st.The Neighbor to Neighbor Fund has a goal of $125,000 and will conclude on January 1st, 2011.
Mr. Frank Eberl, co-owner of Eberl Iron Works, Inc. is this year’s campaign chair. Mr. Eberl, along with his brother, father and uncle, started a small welding shop and with some hard work turned their small family business into a five divisioned company headquartered in Buffalo. Born and raised in Buffalo, Mr. Eberl is married and the father of two and grandfather of three. He graduated from Canisius College and is very involved in the community. He has been a member of the Canisius College Board of Trustees and Regents and also past President of the Buffalo Rotary Club. He has also been the recipient of the Volunteer of the Year Award of the National Society of Fund Raising Executives. Mr. Eberl is looking forward to chairing the Western New York annual appeal of the Society of St. Vincent DePaul. “I look forward to helping the Society reach its goal so it can continue its good works throughout our community”, said Mr. Eberl The Society of the St. Vincent de Paul Central Council has been helping the needy in the Buffalo area since 1847. Currently, the St. Vincent de Paul Society is privileged to provide meals to more than 350 hungry men, women and children each day.The approximately 100,000 meals offered to our less fortunate neighbors have a value of almost $500,000. In addition, over 57,000 families throughout Western New York are assisted by the Society and its 1,100 members located throughout our community. One of its most effective family oriented programs is the “Coats 4 Kids” program that last year distributed 11,000 coats in conjunction with WIVB Channel 4 and the WNY Dry Cleaners Association. The Society also provides a wide variety of free clothing to many of these same families in addition to winter coats. But the children are not forgotten in summertime either. More than 500 under privileged children spend a portion of their summer each year at the Society’s Children’s Summer Camp located on Old Lake Road in Angola. The costs of providing these services are substantial. The Society funds its operations in part from income derived from its Discount Store located in its headquarters building at Main and Bryant Streets and the sale of excess donations. However, the majority of its revenue comes from caring members of the WNY Community. The poor represent Christ’s presence among us.Please help us to care for his special friends. As Our Lord reminded us, what we do to the least of our brethren, we do to Him.
