Member Day

Members Day was held on Saturday October 29th at the Central office.  James Byron informed the members in attendance of the Society’s financial position, its current operations and its future plans and answered any questions the members had at that time.   We thank all those who attended.

Sponsor a Warehouse Worker

The overwhelming response of physical good donations from the WNY
community has the  Diocesan Board issue a plea for volunteers to help in our warehouse sort operation. The Board made a decision to ask our conferences to support underwriting the cost to hire temporary labor to help handle the donated items.

In the past, when we have done this we have accomplished the following:

* Put people to work who need income and are not regularly employed,     many of them single parents.

* Been able to continue our resolve to sort all donations thus preventing    good items from being discarded.

* Add more items to the store so people who have no other place to shop   could be assisted with dignity in the Vincentian tradition.

We want to provide all customers every opportunity to have access to
quality goods. You, the members, have stated this as a major thrust of our program. While volunteers are always welcome, we need your help. If you have surplus funds available, would you please consider underwriting one of the following:
1 Worker for 1 week = $360
1 Worker for 1 day   =  $72
1 Worker for 1 hour =  $9.00
If you are able to participate in this program, please forward your sponsorship contribution to our central office.
 THANK YOU

News Neediest Program

The Society’s Central Office once again will act as a distribution site for food for the News Neediest Fund. Over 100 families will be able to claim food for their holiday meal at our headquarters building. The Society supplemented that food with additional items so that the families could truly enjoy a Merry Christmas

.

Also, the community will aid the St. Vincent DePaul Society in being able to spread the joys of the holiday season to our community

Feinstein Foundation Challenge

The St. Vincent de Paul Society participated in the Feinstein Foundation Challenge from March 1st, 2011 to April 30th, 2011.  The challenge, set forth by philanthropist, Alan Shawn Feinstein, was established to help non-profit agencies across the country, fighting hunger, raise money.  Feinstein would match all donations up to $1 million.  The St. Vincent de Paul Society was fortunate enough to take part in this challenge and raise cash donations of $16,671.00 plus $12,303worth of food items.

Shoes for the Shelter Run

2011 Golf Classic

On July 18th, 2011, the St. Vincent de Paul Society held it’s annual Golf Classic Tournament at the Links at Ivyridge, located at 1221 Main Road (Route 5) Akron, New York.  It was a great day of golf, food, prizes and camaraderie to benefit the St. Vincent de Paul Society.  There were 104 golfers who participated in the event and we raised close to $5,000 to benefit the Camp.

Thanks to all who played!

Camp Bar-B-Que

The Annual Summer Camp Bar-B-Que was held on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at the St. Vincent de Paul Society’s Summer Camp in Angola.

Last year over $8,148 was raised by the Bar-B-Que. The proceeds of this dinner go right to the benefit of the Children’s summer camp and the past dinners have helped pay for continuing improvements to the program and facilities that make up our Summer Camp.

As in the past, the event will be hosted by the Most Precious Blood conference in Angola, along with John Latimore & Family they will do an excellent job in making this event an enjoyable time for all.  They have devoted a great amount of time and effort in preparing for this event.  We appreciate their willingness to help again this summer.  They believe in the camp program and the good that it does for children and their families.  Your support shows your appreciation for this group’s untiring efforts, as well as your support for the children’s summer program.

Watches and Clocks

Several years ago we asked each conference to have an old watch and clock collection drive in your parish.  You responded with over 500 watches.  Out of those 500, we were able to restore 400 and sold them in our store.  We ask, however, that you consider conducting another drive in the next several months as our supply is running low.

Most parishes made up small collection boxes which were labeled and located in the entrances of your church and required little effort other than an announcement in the bulletin.  Remember your trash can be someone else's treasure.
