Since this is our first issue of 2006, I wish all our members, volunteers, benefactors, and clergy, a healthy, blessed and prosperous New Year. Also, we thank you for your generous response to our Annual Giving Campaign. As we have mentioned before, our annual fundraiser is for capital improvements and general operating expenses. Our major expense this year is a new roof for our Main and Bryant location. We have delayed this project as long as possible, however: we have to proceed this year in order to prevent major damage. Doing this project in sections is neither practical nor cost effective. Since our drive did not achieve the desired results, we will have to consider short term borrowing.
Our camp and headquarters building are major assets to our society, but because of their age, they require more than the normal maintenance. Today, we all know the cost of heating and fuel expense in our own day-to-day living. We are doing everything possible to minimize these costs, yet still achieve our Vincentian mission without reducing services.
On a positive note, our clothing bins are now located throughout the Diocese in 35 locations and we plan to add 15 more this year. Our clothing sort floor has not seen a drop off this winter as we have in past years and as a result the supply to our clients and store has been well maintained. We have located bins in several non-conference parishes and welcome all who wish to participate in this program. Our manufacturer-supplier has co-operated in holding to last years price and as a result we can still provide them at no cost to the conference or parish. Please call our central office if you are interested.
Ed Egan, our architect, is in the process of completing working prints of our new camp building and we hope to have several bids by early summer. We will update you as to the progress.
In conclusion, a passage from Colossians 3:12-13 (12) Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. (13) Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
God Bless and Pray for Peace.
